Peer Mentoring

As part of the many local initiatives to help people quit smoking we run a peer mentoring course specifically designed to help people learn skills and knowledge to help others reduce and give up smoking.

The two day Introduction to Mentoring Course is accredited by the Open College Network. All course work is done during the two days of training. Participants also attend a half day smoking cessation brief intervention training which provides information on the medical support available such as patches, gum and inhalators as well as advice on how to make behavioural pattern changes and identify triggers.

Courses can be arranged for groups as well as for individuals who are interested in becoming a mentor. There is no charge for the course, all we do ask is for participants to give us feedback after the course on how they have used their new skills i.e. information on any support or information they have given to someone who smokes.

For more information on this project please contact Natalie McNicholas, Health Development Officer on 0151 922 8588.
